Handyman in Sheffield

Handyman in Sheffield & Stocksbridge

I cover the northern edge of Sheffield from my base in Ingbirchworth near Penistone. Fences, decks, patios and household repairs, with me from quote to finish.

The Sheffield side of my patch

I’m Johnny Stott, the one-man business behind Home Helpers Yorkshire. Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Oughtibridge, Chapeltown, High Green and Ecclesfield are the places I list on the Sheffield side of my working area. I travel from Ingbirchworth near Penistone. That is my base; I do not have a Sheffield office or yard.

If you live elsewhere in Sheffield, send your area or postcode with a description of the work. I will tell you whether it is a job I can take on. The full area list also covers Penistone and Barnsley, Holmfirth and Denby Dale, with Huddersfield and Wakefield in my wider patch. It is better to check your location than assume every part of the city is included.

Garden work and household repairs

I take on fencing and gates, including panels, posts and gates that have dropped. If the fence is loose, I look at the supports as well as the visible panels. Send a wider photograph of the run and a close view of the problem. For a gate, tell me where it catches and how you use the opening.

For deck repairs and rebuilds, I check the frame beneath the boards. A few soft boards on sound supports call for different work from decay through the bearers. The garden deck sequence in the gallery shows the old structure coming out, the membrane and joists going in, and the finished boards.

I also lay patios and repair paving, including sunken or rocking flags, driveway repairs, repointing and edging. If the existing stone can be kept, relaying may be worth discussing. I look at the bed, the levels and where the water will drain before agreeing the scope.

Inside the house I take on joinery, shelving, doors, skirting boards and general repairs. Brickwork, garden walls, pointing, gardening and roofing and gutters are also part of my work. I do not take on gas work. If your job needs another trade, I will say so.

Tell me what you need doing

You do not need a list of technical terms. Tell me what has changed, what you want repaired and what you would like the finished job to do. A photograph on WhatsApp is a useful start. Include your area and mention access, such as a side passage, steps or materials that would have to go through the house.

I ask the follow-up questions, then come and look before giving you a price. Quotes are free and I put the agreed work in writing, with a fixed price for most jobs. If something hidden changes the work, I speak to you before doing anything extra. Payment is by bank transfer or cash; larger jobs may need a materials deposit.

A Sheffield customer’s own words

Phyllis in Sheffield left a review on MyJobQuote in February 2026. You can read her complete words on the reviews page, alongside Colin Newman’s testimonial. I have kept those reviews in full so you can judge the feedback in context.

The photographs of my work show the sort of jobs I take on. They are not labelled as Sheffield projects because the photographs do not establish a town. I work on my own, clear up afterwards and stay your point of contact. I spent twenty years as a mechanical engineer before working on the tools full time. There is more about that approach on the about page.
